Over to Ovre Eidfjord

We woke up this morning and saw that a cruise ship pulled into the dock last night, making a pretty picture against the clouds!

We had extra time this morning, so Jim cooked up a great breakfast of bacon and eggs.  Ahhh....there's nothing better than the smell of bacon in a campground.  (There were no leftovers to share!)

It was a short drive (119k) to Ovre Eidfjord, a small village of 200 people.  Getting there was a treat. More beautiful scenery--soaring cliffs and winding roads.

Along the fjord we saw a ferry headed to Ovre Eidfjord.

The still water was like a mirror reflecting the clouds, creating quite an illusion of snow on the ground.

 I can see how the continuous tunnels can be hypnotic for drivers.  I didn't keep track of the tunnels on today's trip--I'm about tunneled out.  This time we experienced another first...a roundabout INSIDE the tunnel!  Yikes...who would even consider that?  And we had not one, but two of these inside roundabouts today.

We crossed the Hardanger Bridge, and immediately went into another tunnel.

The village of Ovre Eidfjord sits along the river, adjacent to Hardangervidda National Park which is the largest national park in Norway.  The largest herd of wild reindeer live in this park. We visited the Norse Nature Center which gave an overview of the National Park area, it's terrain and wildlife, through some great interactive exhibits.  

Remember those sod roofs?  Did you ever wonder how they cut the grass?  This goat was on the rooftop of the gift shop at the Nature Center.

We are staying down the street at Sæbo Camping right at the edge of a lake where the views can't be beat!

Last night at our travel briefing, our wagon masters presented everyone with a hat from Dale of Norway.  They said the temperatures will be getting cooler and we might need it.  What a wonderful gift that will be a great memory from this trip!
