Bye Bye Barcelona - Hello Hamburg

 Sunday, August 16, 2026

Part 1 of this adventure has ended.  It was a spectacular trip to Spain to see the eclipse.  We had many great experiences and met some new friends.  Now we're off to Part 2.

We had to get up early, but the bonus was that we got to hear the last 30 laps of the NASCAR race from Richmond!   That really puts the time difference into perspective!

Barcelona airport was quite busy at 5am!  But we got through security and to the gate relatively quickly.

We made a stop at McDonalds for a coffee Americano...it tasted really good!  Incidentally, I was surprised at the number of American fast-food places we saw in Spain:  McDonalds, Burger King, Popeye, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell and Dunkin Donuts.

We flew over the Swiss Alps peeking through the clouds which was kind of cool, but somebody needs to clean the airplane windows!
We also saw a large wind turbine field as we landed.
After a stopover in Frankfurt with an hour delay, it was a short flight to Hamburg.  Travel is very tiresome, and it was a full day--4am to 4pm by the time we got to the hotel.  We found a few others from our group and had a quick beverage before turning in.
